Alcohol, has been shown to help sleep and to tame anxiety. The positive ends there for people with PTSD though. Alcohol can often increase symptoms of PTSD. 40 percent of PTSD sufferers become alcoholics.
So while drunk PTSD seems to melt away, this is quite wrong. You will increase your symptoms overall as well as add to them with the issues of alcoholism.
One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One Beer, ain't a cure!
"Using too much alcohol makes it harder to cope with stress and your trauma memories. Alcohol use and intoxication (getting drunk) can increase some PTSD symptoms. Examples of symptoms that can get worse are: feeling numb or having no emotions, being cut off from others, feeling angry and irritable, feeling depressed, and feeling jittery or as if you are always on guard."-- va.gov
So while Alcohol may seem like a helpful way to cope with PTSD just stay away from it. As someone with PTSD you may be more prone to alcoholism and it just isn't going to help.
